Most of us got our hair greased when we were kids. This tradition usually meant sitting for close to an hour (or more) as your mother or grandmother combed and parted our hair and greased your scalp. For some of us, anytime spent sitting still for that period of time was torturous (smile). But, now we know that they were doing their best to fight dryness, prevent dandruff, keep our hair healthy and help our hair grow. Corinne Bailey Rae remembers with fondness, “on the front step getting her hair combed out and greased,” in the song “I’d Like To.” And some of us can actually remember the smell of the grease that mom applied before styling or braiding.
But these days we hardly grease anymore, and that means we spend less of this memorable time together. The fondness of our memories aside, getting your hair greased is one of many memories that binds us together and connects generations. So what products, and what memories are we replacing it with? What do you remember about getting your hair done as a girl, and how do you (or how do you plan to) care for your own daughter’s hair?

Most of us like to feel in control, at least, most of the time. But sometimes, hair has a mind of it’s own. And for ladies that like to be in control, an unruly mane can be a nuisance, especially if you’ve just spent hours doing it at home or spent the day with your hair stylist. (Hey, even Celebs have occasional flyaways.) What’s even worse is if you’ve managed to keep your hair in place but, as your day progresses, your hair gets dry and frizzy, completely wrecking your look. (The Doc gets it.) Here are a few of our Top Pics to help you manage your look.
Let us know if these, or any of our products, helped you get your hair in control.

Ready for a change? Not sure what to do to your hair to really set off your Spring/Summer look? We spotted the newest trends for you to have fun with.

Spring is in the air. For a lot of us, this time of year means out with the old and in with the new, especially when it comes to a new look. As you think about your Spring look, whose hair inspires you? Are you fierce and fiery like the trend-setter Rihanna? Do you love a mean short haircut like Jill Scott’s new do? Do you switch colors with the season like our newest “Queen of Color” Nicki Minaj? Or are you free-spirited like the Solanges, Viola Davis or Esperanza Spalding, letting your natural kinks and curls loose? Each of these ladies has made an influential impact on hairstyles. Let us know who will inspire your Spring look.
March is National Women’s History Month. From Madame C.J. Walker, the creator of what has become the African American Hair Care segment (that’s right, she created the straightening comb and the products needed to keep hair looking “right” in the early 1900s), to the thousands of women running salons today, we thank you for paving the way. But this month means even more to us at Dr. Miracle’s. That’s because the good Doctor himself created the brand to give the women in his family the hair solutions they needed. So, this month, we encourage you to look at the women close to you and honor those who helped make you the amazing person that you are. They’ll appreciate it. And besides … they deserve it! Tell us about a woman that you intend to honor this month.
